Russia and Japan continue military cooperation

The drawn out disagreement between Russia and Japan over the Kuril islands will not cloud military cooperation between the two countries.
“The [Pacific] Fleet has ample military force that can form ship groups to maintain stability in the regions. There are no plans to halt military cooperation with countries in the region, including with Japan,” a source at the ministry of defence told RIA Novosti.
Part of the ships’ brief will be to defend the disputed islands. Russia recently decided to rearm the garrison there.
Rumours that Japan and Georgia will unite against Russia are unlikely, writes RIA Novosti political commentator Dmitry Kosyrev.
