The popular "Mortal Kombat" video game and movies are being made into a web series - "Mortal Kombat: Rebirth." The series will be directed by Kevin Tancheroen and stars Jeri Ryan as Lieutenant Sonya Blade and Michael Jai White as Major Jackson 'Jax' Briggs.
Ryan played the Borg character Seven of Nine on the "Star Trek: Voyager" series, while White is best known for his role as Spawn in the film of the same name.
Warner Brothers is releasing the webisodes after a Tancheroen written and directed "Mortal Kombat" online short tallied over 10 million hits last year. The company has also been rumored to be testing the market for a full feature release.
The 1995 film adaptation of the video game was considered a disappointment along with the 1997 follow-up. However, Kombat fans are anticipating a gritty remake from Tancheroen.
